
In KSU-led protest against CAA, two civilians killed by miscreants
Shillong: Two civilians were allegedly killed by unknown miscreants in Ichamati, under the jurisdiction of Shella Police Station in East Khasi Hills district, on Wednesday evening.
According to police sources, the incident took place after an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rally organized by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and other NGOs in Ichamati.
Victims, who belong to non-indigenous communities, may have been targeted by criminals taking advantage of the situation.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu confirmed the casualties and said further details were pending. As the situation remains tense, additional personnel are being sent.
Superintendents of Police have been ordered to increase patrolling and hold a peace meeting the next day.
The deceased civilians, identified as L Esan Singh and L Sujit Dutta, were discovered in Ichamati and Dalda respectively, district police chief Rituraj Ravi said.
Post-mortem and investigation by local police station teams and additional teams from Shillong is still pending.
