Kohima: A three-day women’s basketball tournament organized by Kohima-based Vision Trinity Club (VTC) began on Thursday at Loyola Higher Secondary School, Jakhama, Nagaland.
This is the fifth edition of the women’s basketball tournament, held under the theme “Unknown Beginning, End, Unforgettable”. Seven teams including Shillong’s Touchline Basketball Academy (TBA), All Blacks, TMB, Loyola, Aces, Orca, and Japfu Christian College (JCC) are participating in the women’s only tournament.
Sashila Ozukum, Proprietor and Principal of Hope Academy who participated in the tournament, appreciated how the tournament is advocating for women empowerment and hygiene through sports. He observed that sports develop qualities like confidence, discipline and leadership.
He said that such tournaments provide an opportunity for women to express their athletic abilities. He said that this tournament is a symbol of commitment to the growth and development of women in sports.
She further hoped that the tournament would pave the way for women players to advance at the regional and national levels.
According to Vision Trinity Club speaker, Tshekulhi Thopi, the tournament started in 2018 with the aim of empowering women through sports.
Vision Trinity Club President Nunese Sale advised the players to show their love for the game and their skills as they make new memories. He said that this tournament has become the biggest women’s tournament in Nagaland.
The winner of the tournament will get Rs 30,000 along with a new running trophy while the runner-up will get Rs 15,000.
