Silchar: In Karimganj, Assam, a girl cut her boyfriend’s throat. Police in South Assam’s Karimganj district on Monday arrested a girl for allegedly trying to kill her ‘boyfriend’ by slitting his throat. He was produced in court on Tuesday and remanded in judicial custody.
According to sources, the incident took place on Monday night near New Karimganj Rail Junction on Karimganj Bypass Road, about 49 km from Silchar. The girl allegedly tried to kill Rajesh Biswas, who is married and a resident of Laxmicharan Road in Karimganj town, by cutting his throat with a sharp object.
Sources said that after the attack, the youth started screaming after which the locals rushed to the spot and took him to Karimganj Civil Hospital, but considering his condition, he was shifted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
An official of Karimganj Saddar police station told reporters that Rajesh’s father Gurupada Biswas had lodged an FIR at Karimganj Saddar police station. A case was registered under Sections 307 (attempted murder) and 326 (voluntary infliction of grievous bodily harm with weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and an investigation was launched.
The girl, a resident of Suparkandi village in Karimganj, was arrested and produced in court, which sent her into judicial custody, the official said.
According to some locals, the married man and the girl were in a relationship but the man kept his marital identity secret. Locals said that when he found out about it, he decided to teach him a lesson.
They met on Karimganj Bypass Road on Monday night and during the meeting the girl attacked him with a sharp object, from which she was seriously injured, locals suspect.
