Manipur: Minister of State (MHA) in the Ministry of Home Affairs Nityanand Rai along with the BJP National Spokesperson visited the conflict-affected area of Manipur and held an important meeting with various civil society organizations and the Committee on Tribal Alliance Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District. The visit is the first time that central leaders have visited the hard-hit Kangpokpi district since the outbreak of widespread violence on May 3.
Despite the delay in his arrival, the Minister of State (MHA) and BJP National Spokesperson was warmly welcomed by leaders of Civil Society Organizations and Tribal Unity Committee, Sadar Hills. The meeting, which lasted for about two hours, was held at the 22 Assam Rifles Kangpokpi post after shifting the venue from the DC office.
During the meeting, the spokesperson of the Committee for Tribal Unity, President Hills, K. Sitlhou gave a detailed account of the series of violence, alleged atrocities and crimes committed against innocent tribal women. Leaders listened carefully to Settlehau’s presentation, which included supporting evidence in the form of documents and videos.
In response, Minister of State (MHA), Nityanand Rai assured the gathering that the Central Government stands for the welfare of all its citizens and justice will be served. Acknowledging the loss of lives, property and villages due to violence, he emphasized the importance of peace in achieving development. Thanking the tribal Kuki community for their unwavering support for the BJP, Roy reiterated the government’s commitment to deliver justice.
Echoing the minister’s statements, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra asserted that Home Minister Amit Shah has clearly declared that those responsible for the violence in Manipur will not be punished. Patra announced that Home Minister Amit Shah himself would visit Manipur on a three-day visit to address the concerns of the people.
Patra further urged the participants to have faith in the Constitution and the Home Minister, assuring them that the government is impartial and works for justice and peace. Kuki women leaders also expressed their concerns about atrocities against Kuki women and wished for an immediate solution to their problems.
Meanwhile, a sit-in organized by the Committee on Tribal Union Sadar Hills (COTU) ended at Leikop village in Kangpokpi district. Hundreds of internally displaced persons participated in the protest, demanding the central government’s intervention in solving the problems faced by the Kuki community.
The COTU spokesperson expressed satisfaction over the fruitful discussions held with the central leaders and hoped for an early resolution of their issues.
However, it is important to note that the ITLF Media Cell reported a separate incident where the Minister of State for Home Affairs and the BJP spokesperson allegedly kept tribal leaders waiting for over three hours and at the last minute I changed the meeting place.
This made some tribal leaders feel disrespected and left without meeting the MOS and BJP spokespersons.
