In Kangpokpi intense firing between miscreants and security forces

Kangpokpi: Armed miscreants exchanged gunfire with security forces at N Boljang village in Kongchup Geljang sub-division of Saitu assembly constituency in Kangpokpi district. The incident took place on the morning of June 22, adding to the ongoing violence that has gripped the outskirts of Manipur.
The miscreants opened fire unprovokedly at Tangnaum village, formerly known as Haraothel. An Indian Army jawan was injured during the attack and was later shifted to the Military Hospital in Limakhong for medical treatment.
Less than an hour and a half after the attack on Tangnaum village, another village, anmed Mongneljang, in Saikul Sub-division of Kongpokpi District, also came under attack by suspected armed miscreants. The attackers targeted the village around 7:30 p.m., raising the level of violence in the area.
In the early morning hours of June 22, a fierce exchange of gunfire was witnessed between suspected miscreants and 44 Assam Rifles at N Boljang village, Kangchup Giljang Sub-Division. Denying some of the reports, the village chief, Thanglun Haokip, clarified that the attackers were heavily armed.
As a result of the encounter, two youths who were on duty at the UJB school in the village were injured. Haokip lamented the damage to the school and said his own house had been hit by several bullets. However, he expressed relief that all the villagers remained safe and sound.
The Indian Army’s official Twitter handle confirmed that the condition of the injured soldiers is stable and they will soon be reunited with their comrades at the company operating base.
Reliable sources indicated that the security forces responded with precision to the attack by the miscreants in N. Boljang village, managing to neutralize some of the assailants and injuring several others. Notably, an INSAS light machine gun was recovered just a few meters away from the UJB school in the village.
The miscreants tried to escape towards a deep gorge between N Boljang and Kangchup Makhom, which led to a fierce exchange of fire between them and the Assam Rifles.
While the five armed miscreants were nabbed by the security forces, they were forcibly taken away by a large mob, mainly consisting of Meira Paibis.
To address the dire situation faced by the internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the ongoing violence, the Committee of Tribal Union Sadar Hills (COTU) organized a rally on June 23 at Kangpokpi district headquarters.
Village heads, civil society organization leaders, and student body representatives met to discuss a proposed project to build prefabricated houses for IDPs. After lengthy deliberations, it was unanimously decided that prefabricated houses should be constructed only in the affected areas, ensuring the provision of security forces to enhance the safety and well-being of the IDPs.
During the meeting, COTU spokesperson Reverend K. Sitlhou strongly condemned the alleged misleading report published by some Manipur media. He urged the authorities concerned to take appropriate action against these media houses, stressing the adverse effects of one-sided and inaccurate reporting on community relations, escalation of violence and hatred.
