Manipur: In the latest development in violence-torn Manipur, miscreants allegedly dressed in ‘khaki’ camouflage, driving military vehicles, on June 9 reached Khoken Kuki-Zo village, located on the border between Kangpokpi district and Imphal West district.
Suddenly the miscreants started attacking the villagers with automatic rifles after which three people were killed including a woman and two others were injured.
It is worth mentioning here that this incident took place among the Khoken, which is believed to be the first village of the Kuki community after Sangaiphen, the last village of the Meitei people.
Sources close to India Today NE and voice of seven sisters revealed that around 04:00 am, the villagers, realizing that the security personnel were there to conduct a combing operation, cooperated and left to let the security forces carry out their duty.
Meanwhile, the Gurkha Rifles on duty nearby reached the village and opened fire on the miscreants.
Locals of the village claim that their timely arrival prevented bloodshed as there were women and children in the village.
A CO of Sector 9 also reached the spot along with his bodyguards.

Injuries/fatalities are expected to increase as the village is secured and search continues for some missing villagers.
According to reports, the injured have been identified as Pa Thongneh and Pa Thangkhojang. Meanwhile, Pi Domkhohoi is shot dead inside a church and Pa Jangpao Touthang is killed by thugs in a scuffle inside the village.
