In Kangpokpi COTU hold 'Candlelight Vigil' condemns violence

Kangpokpi: Tribal Alliance Sadar Hills Committee organized a large-scale ‘Candlelight Vigil’ in collaboration with the Kuki Students Organization-General Headquarters on the evening of July 3 to stop the two-month-long widespread violence. Tributes are paid to the martyred tribals in the ongoing violence.
Even as CoTU’s mass candlelight vigil was held, gun battles continued in the Thingasat Hill Range of Kongpokpi district.

COTU organized a mass candlelight vigil from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm in Kongpokpi Town, Keithelmanbi Military Colony, Bongmol, Leikop, Saparmeina and Saikul.
In the town of Kangpokpi, hundreds of people gathered at Brig. To join COTU’s massive candlelight vigil to pay the highest respects to the departed souls by lighting a candle at the M Thomas Ground where a traditional gun salute was performed by the Kangpokpi Youth Union.
Young and old, men and women, children including victims and victims’ families, church leaders, leaders of local institutions and village heads participated in the candlelight vigil.

A minute’s silence was also observed on behalf of the people to pay homage to the tribal Kuki heroes who were martyred and prayers were also offered for the martyr’s family members.
Similarly, the people of Keithelmanbi, Bongmol, Leikop, Saparmeina, and Saikul in Tujang region also lit candles in large numbers along National Highway-2 and paid homage to the martyred tribal Kuki Zo heroes with a traditional gun salute.
At each mass candlelight vigil, the martyred tribals were given a traditional gun salute while a priest prayed for the martyrs and their families.

The CoTU also imposed a total shutdown from 1:00 pm to midnight on July 3 to mark the two-month-long violence and to pay tribute to the martyred tribal Kuki Zo people.
“Their sacrifice will not be in vain as we firmly believe that their blood will pave the way for our separate administration”, asserted CoTU General Secretary Lamminlun Singsit.

He also said that as we commemorate the great sacrifice of our tribal martyr, we reiterate our resolve for a solution in the form of a separate administration for the people of Kuki Zo.
CoTU General Secretary also condoled with the martyr’s family and encouraged them to remain strong.

Meanwhile, the Sadar Hills Committee of the Tribal Alliance condemned the early morning attack on the Kuki village of Phaileng and Kuki volunteers in the Thingsat range by heavily armed miscreants on July 3.
