Meghalaya: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said on June 6 that the tripartite talks between the Meghalaya government, the Government of India and the Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), scheduled to be held in the first week of June, were canceled due to the situation in Manipur shows complexity.
“As we all know the home ministry is quite busy with various departments in Manipur and it has made things a bit complicated”, Sangma said while talking to reporters after the cabinet meeting.
He also said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is serious about the matter and the state government is in touch with the Ministry.
Sangma said that the peace talks will resume and things will move forward very soon.
However, the HNLC has stressed the need for an amnesty to take the peace talks forward and said that if the state and central governments do not consider an amnesty for the organization, the peace talks cannot go ahead.
