Agartala: The Kamalasagar-Kasba border haathouse in Tripura’s Sepahijala district which was closed during the Covid-19 pandemic is expected to reopen by next month, an official said on Tuesday.
Haats are weekly markets along the India-Bangladesh border where vendors from both sides sell their wares.
The border hothouse at Srinagar in South Tripura’s Sabroom subdivision has already reopened in May.
“Today, the joint border haat management committee held a meeting in the town and discussed reopening the commercial facility as soon as possible. In the meeting, the committee decided to carry out repair work before reopening the hot,” Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Bishalgarh Binoy Bhusan Das told PTI over telephone.
A joint Indo-Bangla team will visit the Kamalasagar-Kasba border haat by next week to prepare an estimate for repair work.
“After the repair work is completed, a joint inspection will be conducted in the first week of July to take a final decision on reopening the border hothouse.
“The Bangladesh delegation was positive about the reopening of the border hot spot and we hope it will happen by the last week of July. There is a growing demand for immediate reopening of the Kamalasagar-Kasba border haat,” said Das.
