Imphal West: Amid the ongoing unrest in the state of Manipur, women allegedly set ablaze three trucks carrying LPG cylinders owned by a Kuki-zo tribal in Sekmai village of Imphal West.
According to the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF), the trucks that have been stuck at the IOC gas plant in Sekmai since May 3 are being moved to Kangpokpi district after owner Misao Gas Agency gets approval from the police.
After being tipped off by an insider, women protesters blocked the road and set the trucks on fire around 12 pm.
Meanwhile, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) strongly condemns the indignity to life and property that continues to be demonstrated.
“Women, who claim to be protectors of society, have turned into killers, arsonists and encouragers of armed militancy.
They sided with gunmen during raids on tribal settlements, prevented security forces from helping villagers when they attacked, and forced the release of separatist militants responsible for killing soldiers.
And they do not shy away from burning innocent women and children alive when given the opportunity,” ITLF said in a release.
The ITLF further claims that there is no peace on the ground, despite the Biren Singh-led government’s claim that the state is returning to normalcy.
The release further said that this is why communities need to be completely segregated for peace to return.
