Imphal: The Manipur government on Sunday issued prohibitory orders against unauthorized sale and use of Walkie-Talkie sets in the entire Imphal West district to prevent spread of rumors and public unrest.
The order, signed by District Magistrate Imphal West, Tha Kirankumar, said that SP Imphal West vide letter No. 10/MISC/SP-IW/RIOT/2023/3362 on June 13, has issued a warrant for unauthorized use of walkie-talkies and personal use. Submitted a report on usage. Mobile Radio (PMR) by miscreants to spread rumors and create public anxiety.
This order is issued in exercise of powers under sub-section 1 of Section 144 of CrPC 1973 and in continuation of prohibitory orders in Cril. Miscellaneous Case No. 6 of 2023 dated May 3, it said.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of Cr.P.C were imposed in the district on 3 May 1973 from 7 pm on the basis of the input of SP, Imphal West whereas a review of the situation from other sources shows that There is a possibility of imminent danger to human life and property which will ultimately result in a breach. He mentioned that peace and public tranquility or riot, or strife in the area.
It said that such disturbances may result in serious breach of peace, public tranquility and danger to human life and property.
There is an emergency and the circumstances do not permit notice to the public, the order is passed ex parte under sub-section 2 of section 144 CrPC. 1973 and is directed at the public in general, it added.
