In the latest development from the ethnic clashes that hit the northeastern state of Manipur, infuriated mobs killed security personnel in Imphal West on August 3.
As per reports, the security personnel was killed in Senjam Chirang in Imphal West.
During the last 24 hours, the situation in the State is still volatile and tense with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of unruly mobs.
Security Forces conducted search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas of the State. Joint security forces conducted an operation in the Koutruk hill range and destroyed 07 (seven) illegal bunkers.
An unruly mob also attempted to snatch arms and ammunition from 7th Bn. Manipur Rifles, 2n1 Bn. Manipur Rifles, Heinaang Police Station and Singjamei Police Station but security forces repelled them.
On the otherhand, an exchange of fire between armed miscreants occurred at Koutruk, Haraothel and Senjam Chirang areas in which two persons including one security personnel sustained bullet injuries.
Security forces retaliated with the firing and repelled the miscreants, however, one security personnel succumbed to his injury.
Further, an unruly crowd of 500-600 persons congregated at Phougakchao Ikhai and Security Forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd in which around 25 persons sustained minor injuries.
A total of 129 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and the Police detained 1047 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State.
