
In Imphal west Indian army sepoy kidnapped and killed by unknown
Imphal: An Indian Army soldier was allegedly abducted and killed by unknown persons in Manipur’s Imphal West.
According to sources, the dead soldier has been identified as 39-year-old soldier Serto Thangthang Kom.
The soldier belongs to the Kom tribe, one of Manipur’s indigenous peoples and the smallest of the state’s minorities.
A statement said that Kom tribe has always maintained neutrality in all matters of the state.
The deceased was on military leave and was abducted from his house at Tarung, Neikanlong, Happy Valley, Imphal West on September 16.
He was posted at Leimakhong Military Station, Manipur.
The statement of his 10-year-old son, who is the only eyewitness to the crime, said that three miscreants entered the house while the father and son were working on the verandah, held a pistol to the father’s head and forced him into a white car.
Since then, there was no update on his whereabouts but on Sunday morning, his body was found in Khuningthek village, east of Mongjam in Imphal East.
His identity was confirmed by his brother and sister-in-law.
He said that the soldier was killed by a bullet in the head.
His body was deposited at JNIMS, Hospital, Imphal East district mortuary on Sunday.
A statement from the defense wing said that the post-mortem report is awaited.
The statement said that the brave soldier who breathed his last at the hands of miscreants is survived by his wife, daughter and son.
Cremation will be performed according to the wishes of the family. The army has dispatched a team to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved family.
The Army further condemned the killing of Sep Serto Thangthang Kom.
