Imphal: In a targeted operation conducted in Imphal East district of Manipur, two suspected drug smugglers were apprehended along with 3 kilograms of brown sugar, estimated to be valued at approximately Rs 15 crores in the current international market.
Acting on specific intelligence, the anti-smuggling unit of the customs division, Imphal, conducted a raid in the vicinity of Standard College, Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Imphal East district of Manipur.
The suspects were swiftly apprehended along with 3 kilograms of a powdery substance suspected to be brown sugar, as confirmed by the superintendent of the customs division, Imphal.
The seized contraband, with an estimated value of Rs 15 crores in the international market, marks a significant interception in the battle against narcotics trafficking, stated the official.
The individuals taken into custody were identified as Abdul Rahman (41) from Yairipok Tulihal Mayai Leikai, Imphal East district, and Md Feizuddin (38) from Lilong Chingkham Makha Leikai, Thoubal district of Manipur.
A case has been registered against the apprehended duo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985, added the official.
