In Imphal over Sejam Chirang death clashes erupted again

Imphal: Clashes erupted between women and the state police in Imphal’s Bazar area following the Sejam Chirang incident on Thursday in which two civilians were killed and four others injured in an exchange of fire with suspected Kuki militants.
After the exchange of fire, the lifeless body of 40-year-old Waikhom Boicha alias Nilkamal, son of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai’s W Boyai, who died on the spot, could not be found.

However, central security forces reportedly recovered the body and handed it over to Lamshang police station in the evening.
The people of Uripak paid their respects to the deceased by placing floral wreaths, after which the deceased was taken to Ima Market,Khwairamband, where hundreds of people laid wreaths.
A state police team led by SP, Imphal West rushed to collect the body as a crowd gathered in and around Khwairamband Ima Market. However, women gathered in the area tried to stop the police from taking the body.
To bring the situation under control, the state police along with the Rapid Action Force fired stun grenades and tear gas shells at the crowd. Later, the security forces controlled the mob and recovered the body and deposited it in the JNIMS mortuary.
After that, the angry mob started setting fire to the police post established at Emama Market, Khwaram Bandh. Meanwhile, some protesters tried to snatch guns from the Manipur Gun House in Thingal Bazar. However, the state police foiled the attempt to seize the guns of the protesters.
A large crowd also gathered towards Wahengbam Leikai and Keishampat Junction from different directions.
A joint state and central security forces fired several rounds at Wahengbam leikai Junction and Keshampat Junction to disperse the crowd coming from different directions.

A similar incident reportedly took place in Khurai Lamlong.
