Imphal: The situation in Manipur remains volatile as intermittent firing continues in the general area of Kangvai-Awang Lekhai area on the night of July 7.
Additional Border Security Forces (BSF) were deployed to bring the situation under control as columns of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles moved into General Area Songdo.
A security official of Manipur police was reportedly injured in the retaliatory firing, though this is yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, exchange of fire was also reported in YKPI’s Laikot area where security forces are monitoring the situation.
On the other hand, a mob of around 200 gathered on Mahabali Road and burnt two vehicles near the historic Kangla Fort in Manipur’s Imphal. According to the sources, the mob also tried to snatch weapons from the police. The police had to resort to firing to disperse the mob and bring the situation under control, though no casualties were reported in the incident.
Another mob of about 200 people gathered at the palace compound in Imphal West but the army and Rapid Action Force personnel managed to disperse the mob by 12.30 am on July 8.
