In Imphal human rights activist Babloo residence attacked by mob
Imphal: The residence of Manipur-based human rights activist Babloo Loitongbam was attacked on Thursday October 06 evening.
Unknown miscreants attacked the residence of Babloo Loitongbam in Imphal, Manipur.
Notably, the attack on Babloo Loitongbam’s residence came hours after he and former Manipur police officer Thounaojam Brinda were banned from public speaking by the radical Meiti group – Meitei Leepun.
It is pertinent to mention here that human rights activist Babloo Loitongbam has been critical of Meitei Leepun and Aarambai Tenggol, who are allegedly inciting violence against the Kukis in Manipur.
In an interview to News Click in early May, Babloo Loitongbam alleged that Meitei Leepun and Aarambai Tenggol had ‘injected’ militancy into the minds of people belonging to the Meitei community in Manipur.
In the interview, Loitongbam alleged that “not a single church is standing in the valley anymore”.
“All the churches are being destroyed,” he said.
Notably, on October 04 activists of Meitei Leepun and Aarambai Tenggol also stormed the residence of former Manipur police officer Thi Brinda and threatened him for making statements against both groups.
Brenda said Meitei Leepun and Aarambai Tenggol were responsible for an arson incident earlier during the violence.
Brinda had also demanded an inquiry into “the role of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in the Manipur violence”.
“That person is not the savior of Meiteis as portrayed. He has sold out Meiteis and Manipur,” he had said in July.
