
In Imphal four nabbed by Army, AR for spreading violence in state
Imphal: The Army and Assam Rifles on May 22 arrested four people for disturbing law and order, spreading violence in the state.
In the first incident on the night of 21/22 May, a man was arrested from New Keithelmanbi village in Imphal West with an illegal/unauthorized single barrel 12 bore shotgun and seven cartridges, for his involvement in After receiving the information. A firing incident took place in Moidangpok village, resulting in three villagers being injured and shifted to Rams Hospital. The man has been identified as Chungkhomang Kipgen and has been handed over to the Manipur Police.
In another incident, columns of the Army and Assam Rifles were responding to inputs of four armed suspects who were threatening shopkeepers in New Chekon area and moving to New Lambulane area of Imphal East.
Three accused were caught along with 2 single barrel 12 bore guns and handed over to the police.
Earlier today, at least three persons, including a former MLA, were arrested following violence in New Chekon area of Imphal East on Monday, a police official said.
A mob allegedly torched four houses in Imphal East district after armed miscreants forced people to close their shops on Monday afternoon, police officials said.
