According to the army, miscreants opened fire with automatic weapons towards Urangpat and Gwaltbi villages.
Columns of security forces deployed in these empty villages responded in a calibrated manner to avoid any casualties. Meanwhile, a large group of women were part of the mob in the YKPI and Seijang area blocking the movement of additional columns into the area.
On June 21, unprovoked firing continued from Manipur’s Urangpat, with an IED blast reported on a bridge near Ward No. 9 south of Kwatka.
Around 7.15 pm, an IED exploded in a vehicle, probably a Mahindra Scorpio, on a bridge near Ward No. 9, south of Kwakta. In Kwatka, Bishnupur district, two people were killed and four injured, though official confirmation of the death toll is still awaited. According to sources, a Scorpio was parked on top of a bridge, and a few passers-by saw the driver getting out of the vehicle.
However, at around 5.45 pm automatic small arms fire was heard near Urangpat north of YKPI in Imphal East. According to sources, the situation has been brought under control.
