Curfew in the valley districts of Imphal East and Imphal West will continue to remain relaxed on Monday, July 31 in view of “considerable improvement” in the law and order situation and to facilitate the general public to purchase essential items, official sources said.
According to the notifications issued by the magistrates of both the districts, day curfew will be lifted from 5 am to 7 pm in the entire area to facilitate the general public to purchase essential items, including medicines and food items.
During the rest of the curfew period, movement of persons belonging to essential services such as Health, Electricity, Petrol Pump, PHED, Schools/Colleges, Municipality, Press and Electronic media, functioning of courts and to and fro movement of flight passengers to airport shall be exempted from the imposition of curfew, the notification stated.
The curfew was imposed under Section 144 of the CrPC in violence-hit districts of Manipur. The state has been in turmoil since the outbreak of a series of violence on May 3.
