Imphal: As communal violence in Manipur entered its third month on Thursday (03 August), the law and order situation in the state remains tense.
On Thursday (August 03), thousands of women from the Valley district confronted the Assam Rifles and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel.
The women asked the security forces to let them pass through what they called the Meitei area of Torbung gram Panchayat along the Bishnupur-Churachandpur border.
About 50 women and a TV journalist were injured, 10 of them seriously, when central security forces fired tear gas canisters and smoke bombs to disperse the crowd.
Women gathered in large numbers and protested against the conversion of Torbung Bangla into a graveyard.

The incident took place around 11 am on Thursday when women from different parts of the valley flocked to Torbung Bangla area to stop the proposed mass burial of 35 Kuki-Zo people who lost their lives in the ongoing ethnic violence. .
The injured women were then rushed to Moirang and Kwata Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.
Sources said that the seriously injured were later referred to Bishnupur District Hospital.
A journalist from a local TV channel was also injured.
