In IBBR premises 3 found dead after consuming wild mushroom
Shillong: Three persons, including a woman, were found dead on the premises of the Institute of Science and Bio-Resources (IBBR) near here, police said on Monday.
Police said the bodies were recovered from two rooms at the institute’s under-construction site on Sunday night and have been identified as employees of the institute, located about 10 km north of here.
A senior police officer said that while the body of cleaner Sheba Kharbani, 40, was found in one room, Rupert Donbor Dohtdong, 43, and Backstar Kharkrang, 30, both working as cleaners and watchmen respectively, were found in adjoining rooms.
She said that the police had received a report of smell coming from the rooms occupied by cleaners on the first floor of the building.
The local police of Maodiangdiang checkpoint arrived at the spot along with the elders of the area.
On investigating the other rooms, a jar containing wild mushrooms was found, leading to suspicion that the trio had consumed wild poisonous mushrooms together, the officer said.
Apart from the pot, police are looking for any other evidence that may have led to the death of the three men, she said.
The bodies have been taken to North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science for post-mortem, she said, adding that a case of unnatural death has also been registered.
