Moreh: A day of escalating violence rocked Manipur’s border town of Moreh, killing two suspected Kuki National Army (KNA) militants and injuring nine people from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning.
A PTI report cited, suspected militants, armed with sophisticated weapons, surrounded the villagers in the Khamenlok area late evening and then launched an attack around 1 am.
The clashes started around 3:30 pm on Saturday when militants targeted the Manipur Police commandos posted at the Assam Rifles’ key location point in Moreh.
This triggered a series of fierce gun battles that continued throughout the night, disrupting the normal peace of the city.
In the ensuing exchange of fire, two militants, identified as J Haokip and K Mate, were killed.
Additionally, four other suspected militants and nine state forces personnel were injured.
The injured state forces, identified as J Kamson, M Priyokumar, N Borjao, M Sunil, and G. Ponkhamlung, received initial treatment at the Assam Rifles camp before being evacuated to hospitals in Imphal.
The identities of the injured militants remain unknown, and police are working to ascertain their affiliations.
