Guwahati: Police arrested two persons and seized a large quantity of suspected hemp (Ganja) from their possession in Basistha area of Assam’s Guwahati city on Wednesday (October 11) morning.
Acting on specific inputs, a joint team of Central Guwahati Police District (CGPD) and East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) intercepted an oil tanker, registration number NL-01-AH-0501, in Basistha area.
The tanker entered Guwahati in Assam from Meghalaya.
A thorough search of the oil tanker led to the recovery of 2640 kg of suspected hemp (Ganja) packed in 134 packets hidden in a secret chamber of the vehicle.
The police team later arrested the driver of the vehicle, Qasim Ali (40) and Mukut Ali (44), both hailing from Assam’s Baksa district.
Assam Police has initiated legal action and further investigation is on.
