Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the statue of Ahom General Bir Lachit Barphukan and ‘Shaheed Smarak’ at Bir Lachit Barphukan Park in Narangi Military Station on 9 October 2023.
The unveiling ceremony of the iconic hero’s statue is an important moment as a symbol of Assam’s rich history and cultural heritage.
Visitors paid homage to the legendary warrior and paid tribute to his indelible contribution to the Ahom dynasty.
The day will also be remembered for times to come as the park was also awarded with the ‘Shaheed Smarak’ which is a tribute to the incomparable spirit and selfless sacrifice of our brave soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.
The event was replete with a mesmerizing performance of the Assam State Song and a play on the legendary General Bir Lachit Barphukan which was enthusiastically presented by the Assam State Cultural Department.
This monumental event was graced by the presence of Lieutenant General RP Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Lieutenant General Sanjay Malik, General Officer Commanding 101 Area, Major General PS Joshi, General Officer Commanding 51 Sub Area, Major General RK Jha, AVSM (Retd) and many other esteemed dignitaries, historians, Armed Forces personnel and NCC cadets.
