Guwahati: Home Department of Assam Government in collaboration with Special Branch Hqrs (SB hqrs), Assam, Kahilipara, Guwahati, is all set to host a monetary grant distribution function for ex-freedom fighters of National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB).
The program will commence on 20th October 2023 at 11:00 am at Madhabdeb International Auditorium, Panjabari, Guwahati. The function will be attended by the Chief Executive Member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and various other dignitaries.
The development follows the arrest of NLFB commander-in-chief, Binod Mashahary, also known as M Batha, earlier this year.
Batha was arrested by the Assam Police in July 2023 from Kokrajhar. He was detained on charges of forming a new extremist organization called NLB within the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and receiving money.
The NLFB had announced a ceasefire in 2021. However, suspicions arose when Batha’s involvement in the formation of the NLB was suspected, prompting the authorities to take action.
According to reliable sources, he was taken into custody by Udalguri police in Kokrajhar on Wednesday. Notably, M Batha has been living in a designated camp since surrendering in July 2021.
