Imphal: The CBI on Monday filed a chargesheet against six accused and a report against a minor in the Manipur viral video case in a special CBI court in Guwahati.
The CBI had registered a case on the request of the Manipur government and had taken over the investigation of the NSK police station case in Thoubal district of Manipur.
On 4 May, a mob of about 900-1000 people, armed with modern weapons, allegedly entered B Phainom village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur, vandalized and set fire to houses, looted property, village Attacked, killed, raped women.
Two family members of one of the victims were also reportedly killed in the incident.
CBI investigation revealed that the accused were involved in the said incident.
The chargesheet was filed on Monday before the Special Judge, CBI Court, Guwahati, as per the order of the Supreme Court.
Apart from other aspects of the case, further investigation is going on including identification of other accused involved in the crimes.
At least 178 people have been killed and 50,000 displaced in ethnic violence between Kukis and Meiteis in the town of Churachandpur in Manipur on May 3.
The clashes erupted after tribal groups called for protests against a proposed adjustment to the state’s reservation matrix, giving the Meitei community a Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
