Guwahati: A 20-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the bathroom of her residence in Assam’s Jalukbari area of Guwahati on Wednesday night.
She lived in Katia Dalang area of Jalukbari on the outskirts of Guwahati city.
Based on the investigation, initial indications are that the nature of the crime is suspected to be rape and murder.
However, the police have kept the identity of the deceased under wraps.
While the possibility of natural causes or even an accident leading to her demise cannot be ruled out, the discovery that the bathroom door was locked from the outside is not.
On the information of local people, the police reached the spot and seized the body and shifted it for further examination after post-mortem.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, we are treating it as a case of murder, and a thorough investigation has been initiated,” confirmed a senior police official.
Recognizing the importance of the case, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police also dispatched a team to the spot to take stock of the situation and lend its expertise to the ongoing investigation.
Earlier on Wednesday, a woman was found dead in a hotel room in Assam’s Paltan Bazar area of Guwahati.
The incident took place on Wednesday evening when the lifeless body of a woman was found in room number 114 on the first floor of Hotel Trimurti International in Paltan Bazar.
According to sources, the deceased woman has been identified as Jayanthi Bayan Chaudhary, a resident of Ambarihat in Barpeta.
Janati had reportedly booked the room two days earlier, and his body was found under mysterious circumstances.
Paltan Bazar Police has reached the spot and started investigating the matter and investigation is on.
It is not yet clear whether the incident was a murder or an accident, but the police are conducting a thorough investigation.
It was also not known that the room he had booked was shared by someone else.
