Agartala: Leader of the Opposition and Tipra Motha MLA Animesh Debbarma criticized the Tripura government’s lack of adequate efforts to tackle drug abuse and its recent hike in electricity rates.
Addressing a press briefing in Agartala on Sunday, Debbarma called for the establishment of drug rehabilitation centers in every assembly constituency, and stressed the urgent need for concrete action to tackle the growing prevalence of drug-related problems.
He also demanded the formation of a committee comprising members of both the ruling and opposition parties to monitor the initiative.
Debbarma questioned the quality of government services, highlighting the increase in power outages and absenteeism of officials in electricity offices.
He suggested that prioritizing development within the power sector should precede tariff adjustment, pointing out that other states provide free electricity or water services.
Debbarma slammed the Agartala Municipal Corporation for evicting drivers ahead of the Durga Puja festival and demanded an official statement from the government on the matter.
