Imphal: An Assam Rifles jawan was injured in a fierce encounter between Indian security forces and suspected People’s Liberation Army (PLA) freedom fighters in Manipur along the India-Myanmar border on Friday morning.
The clash erupted around 9 AM between Konkhan Thana and Yaingoupokpi villages in Manipur’s Tengnoupal and Kamjong districts.
Acting on intelligence input, 3 Assam Rifles Battalion personnel from Moreh initiated a cordon and search operation. However, they were ambushed by the freedom fighters, triggering a 30-minute firefight.
SC Sahu, a 34-year-old jawan, sustained injuries during the exchange of firing. He was evacuated to Shija Hospital in Imphal for medical treatment.
While the extent of insurgent casualties remains unclear, additional Assam Rifles forces have been deployed to the area to conduct a massive search operation.
