In East Shillong clash between two groups, police vehicle torched
Shillong: Shillong East Constituency MLA took stock of the situation after a clash between two groups in Laitumkhrah area of Shillong on Friday morning.
Joined by the Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills in Lyngdoah.
A scuffle broke out between the two groups near the DHS office on Friday morning, after which they rushed to the Laitumkhrah police station to lodge an FIR.
According to SP Sylvester Nongtnger, one group wanted to lodge an FIR while the other refused, leading to a scuffle. In time, a mob gathered, some inside the station and some outside, and that’s when a police vehicle was set on fire.
Nongtngar also said that they have been able to identify the miscreants and the police will take necessary action.
The police were also accused of not accepting the FIR of the other group and of using force by the CRPF personnel. Nongtngar denied such allegations saying that no such incident took place and the police had requested the other group to file an FIR but they refused.
“As for the CRPF, those personnel were just returning to their place after finishing their duty but some miscreants tried to snatch their weapons,” said Nongtnger.
