In East Khasi Hills a 16 years old rape victim dies by suicide

Shillong: A rape victim allegedly committed suicide at a government shelter home in Mawdiangdiang in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills on Wednesday.

According to reports, a 16-year-old minor was raped in November 2022.
She was allegedly raped by her uncle, who has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
She hanged herself at the shelter home but left no suicide note behind, reports claim.

Her body was taken to the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) for post-mortem.
Later, the body was handed over to the family for last rites.

Police have registered a case of suicide but are investigating other angles as well.
