Shillong: In a swift operation, the East Jaintia Hills police on July 16 nabbed two women inter-state smugglers and seized heroin worth Rs 1.6 crore in Nongsning.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wrote on Twitter, “Meghalaya Police will continue to take all possible action against traffickers who target youth for their doom.”
According to DSP Jason Mairom, the East Jaintia Hills police received information from a reliable source that two women were traveling from Silchar to Shillong in a Tata Sumo Tourist vehicle.
Accordingly, the police set up a NAKA (Naxalite affected area check post) at Nongsning village along NH-06.
Two women, identified as Hoihoi Hanhal (35 years) and Lhing Hohoi, 40, both of Imphal West Mizoram, were arrested from Tata Sumo bearing registration number MZ4 A 2997.
The police also seized two mobile phones from the women. After testing, the suspected heroin was confirmed.
