Imphal: Manipur police arrested at least five people in camouflage uniforms with sophisticated weapons during an operation launched on Saturday.
According to an official report, in response to increasing incidents of extortion threats, misuse of police uniforms, and impersonation by armed miscreants, the Manipur Police is doing everything possible to address these issues.
After the arrests, a large number of people came out to protest and tried to storm Porompat police station in Imphal East demanding the release of the arrested persons.
To control the crowd, joint security forces deployed at the scene fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. A Rapid Action Force (RAF) official was injured during the clash.
Meanwhile, the five arrested persons were produced before a judicial magistrate and have been remanded in police custody.
Police say that strict legal action is being taken against these anti-social elements.
The Manipur Police is determined to continue such raids and operations, making every effort to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
Along with this, the Manipur Police has also appealed to the common people to refrain from such protests and cooperate with the law enforcement agencies in restoring law and order in the state.
