Imphal: The state of Manipur is in turmoil as fresh firing broke out in Churachandpur which resulted in the tragic death of two village volunteers and injuries to three others on July 7. According to the sources, the exchange of fire is reportedly going on, which has increased the tension.
The incident of firing took place around 4:30 am, raising concerns over the security situation in the region.
The exact cause of the shooting and the parties involved are still unknown. The exchange of firing that started early in the morning created a state of anxiety among the people.
On July 6, the Manipur Police, along with central security forces, launched an operation to eliminate bunkers in Kangpokpi, Imphal West, and Churachandpur districts.
Four bunkers were destroyed in this joint operation aimed at maintaining law and order. Additionally, other districts are also taking steps to eliminate similar constructions in the suburbs.
While the situation remains tense in some areas, with sporadic incidents of firing and unruly mob gathering in the last 24 hours, the situation is reported to be back to normal in most districts.
In response to these challenges, the state police and central forces have launched search operations in vulnerable areas of both the hill and valley districts.
Over the past 24 hours, there has been sporadic exchange of fire between unknown assailants near Khoijomantabi, especially in the mountain range above Langza village.
Law enforcement agencies quickly launched an operation in the area and successfully repelled the armed miscreants. Additionally, an unruly mob of about 3,500-4,000 people stormed the Heroic Police Station, seizing arms and ammunition, including exhibits.
