“Police opened fire on the dacoit, identified as Sanju Jaiswal, when he tried to escape on his motorcycle after seeing the search team. He was first asked to surrender. .

“The man sustained two bullet injuries and died while being taken to Assam Medical College and Hospital,” he said.
The officer said that Jaiswal had been arrested several times before and was out on bail recently, after which he resumed criminal activities.

He was convicted in two cases and charged in more than 20 cases, the officer added.
