Aizawl: The Assam Rifles recovered 77 cases of foreign cigarettes worth over Rs 1 crore during an operation in Zotlang general area of Champhai district of Mizoram on July 6.
“During the operation, 77 cases of foreign cigarettes were recovered which were hidden from the track in the general area of Zotlang,” a press release said.
“The market value of the entire consignment is only Rs 10 crore,” he said.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department Champhai under the supervision of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) conducted an operation on June 5.
It added that the seized consignment was handed over to the Customs Preventive Force Champhai on July 5 for further legal action.
On Wednesday, in a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and the Excise and Narcotics, Anti-Narcotics Squad, Aizawl arrested two people with 340 grams of heroin worth Rs 1,70,00,000.
The recovered consignment and the two arrested persons, one of whom was a Myanmar national, were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics, Anti-Narcotics Squad, Aizawl on Tuesday (July 4) for further legal action, officials said.
