Guwahati: After the recent defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has now decided to not contest the by-polls for five assembly constituencies in Assam.
The by-elections are scheduled for November 13.
Speaking to the media, AIUDF leader Rafiqul Islam said that it had initially considered contesting at least one of the five seats.
However, he added, that following certain discussions and feedback from various organisations as well as persons, it decided to hold back on the elections.
He stated that the decision to not contest the polls was taken by AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal.
Islam, however, stated that the party would consider contesting the upcoming panchayat polls slated for December.
