In Boko first ever Bodo Folk Dance Workshop organised

Bhogdabari: Ahead of the Rongali Bihu festival, Sifung Harimu Affat, Boko has organized a 20-day Bodo folk dance workshop at the playground of Bhogdabari LP School. The workshop started from April 3 and will continue till April 23, 2023.

The workshop was sponsored by the Bodo-Kochari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC).
BKWAC Executive Member Dasarath Boro and ABSU South Kamrup President Sanswarang Basumatary attended the inauguration as Chief Guest. More than 100 Bodo girls and boys participated in the workshop.

“Bodo girls and boys from many villages under South Kamrup region have participated in the workshop and more will come in the coming days,” said BKWAC executive member Dasarath Boro.
He also said that this is the first time that the Bodo-Kochari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) has sponsored a Bodo folk dance workshop in Kamrup district.

“To promote our Bodo culture with our youth, BKWAC has sponsored many workshops in 22 districts, which are outside the Bodoland regional area”, Dasarath Boro added.
“With this aim, we at BKWAC try to develop our Bodo folk dances in the South Kamrup region, so that they can perform at the global level,” Dasarath Boro added.
The workshop is conducted by seven Bodo folk dance masters led by Master Gyanendra Basumatary.

“I thank BKWAC and Harimu Affat (The Cultural Association) for this initiative for the Bodo youth. Such programs will revive our folk culture in the future,” said ABSU South Kamrup President Sanswarang Basumatary.

“I request my boys to learn bodo dance. It is not only for girls but boys can also perform. Even girls should learn how to play the ‘sifung’ (flute) and ‘Madol/Kham.’ ‘(The drums) have to be played,’ added Sanswarang Basumatary.
“Bodo traditional folk dances such as Bagurumba, Bardwi Sikhila, Mwsaglanai, Dawsedelai etc. along with flute and other Bodo traditional musical instruments will be taught in the 20-day workshop,” said Hemanta Boro, general secretary of South Kamrup Harimu Affat.
