BOKO: In a shocking incident, the state forest department and Assam police arrested three people planning to eat a wild cat on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu at Rajapara under Boko police station on Friday night.
Boko PS OC Phanindra Chandra Nath received information that a wild cat had died while trying to cross the road and was hit by an unknown vehicle. Interestingly, West Kamrup Divisional Forest Officer Dampy Bora also received the same information.
It should be noted that Rajpara area comes under Bondapara Forest Office.
Sangra Forest Range in-charge ACF Alok Deb said the DFO ordered him along with Bundapara range officer to immediately recover the carcass of the wild cat.
Meanwhile, Boko police team led by OC Phanindra Natha reached the accident site and started investigation.
“When we started searching for the carcass of the wild cat, we found that three villagers of Rajapara village had cut the meat of the wild cat. We seized the skin and meat of the wild cat and arrested them on the spot. Done,” added ACF Alok Deb.
Later, a team of forest and police brought three of them to Sangra forest range. The three accused have been identified as Ganesh Boro, 46, Sukleswar Boro, 40, and Ranjit Chetry, 34.
ACF Alok Deb said that the body was found from Ganesh Boro’s house. A case was registered under Sections 39, 43, 44, 49 (b), 09 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Further investigation is on and they will be sent to judicial custody.
