Manipur: With reports of fire and fresh violence in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, the Bishnupur district administration has announced the relaxation of curfew from 5 am to 4 pm.
The notification reads, “The period of relaxation of curfew on 24th May 2023 from 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM, has been canceled on 23rd May by this office at even no.
All those involved in essential services such as health, PHED and transportation of food and water will be exempted from the imposition of further curfew after the expiry of the said relaxation period.”
This order was issued by District Magistrate Lourembam Bikram.
According to further sources, relaxation of curfew in respect of Imphal East and Imphal West has also been cancelled.
Curfew will now remain in force for 24 hours without any relaxation till further orders. Essential services are exempted.
According to reports, the sudden cancellation of the curfew relaxation has led to massive traffic jams in the city of Imphal.
Curfew was canceled due to tension in some places of Manipur.
On the other hand, Malemnganba Chenglei, District Magistrate, Jiribam District, Manipur in exercise of powers under sub-section 2 of Section 144 of Cr.P.C. 1973 restricted movement of any person outside their respective residences from 12.30 p.m. 24 May 2023 till further orders.
This order will not apply to government agencies involved in the enforcement of law and order and other essential services.
In case of emergency and persons who wish to take out a procession in the designated area for marriage or funeral, permission may be applied to the undersigned or the Superintendent of Police, Geribam District and they will not take out the procession until Written permission has been obtained from the authorities.
