In Barpeta, three killed and several injured over violent family clash

Guwahati: At least three people, including a woman, were killed and several others injured in a violent clash between two groups in Assam’s Barpeta district.

According to police, the incident took place in Kalbari area near Sorbhog when two groups clashed over a family dispute.
Barpeta District Superintendent of Police Amitava Sinha said three people were killed in the encounter, two of whom have been identified as Hasmot Ali and his son Saiful Islam.
“A gang set fire to a house where we found a dead body and we suspect it to be that of a girl. After the incident, a police team reached the spot and started investigation. We have arrested 14 people so far. Have taken it,” said Sinha.
Apart from this, several motorcycles and property were also damaged in this incident.

Police added that the clash was the result of a long-standing property dispute between the two groups.
