Guwahati: A massive fire was reported in Kalgachia Bazar in Assam’s Barpeta district on Tuesday evening.
It is reported that many shops have been gutted by the fire.
The fire reportedly broke out due to a suspected short circuit in a jewelery shop.
However, the exact cause of the fire is not known.
Locals tried to put out the fire with buckets of water.
Fire tenders reached the spot and brought the fire under control after an hour’s struggle with the help of locals.
According to some locals, the fire broke out around 7 pm.
The loss due to the fire is estimated to be around 50 to 60 lakh rupees.
Further investigation into the fire is underway.
