In August 2023 Assam to get new assembly house

Guwahati: Assam is all set to witness an important milestone in its political landscape as a new Assembly House is nearing completion and is scheduled to be inaugurated in August 2023.
He said that the present building of the Assam Legislative Assembly, which was originally a tea warehouse, served as a temporary arrangement when the state capital was shifted from Shillong to Dispur in September 1972. The permanent structure became clear.
The construction of the new assembly house faced its fair share of challenges and delays, resulting in a revised cost of Rs 351 crore, higher than the original estimated budget of Rs 234 crore.
The project has been overseen by the Assam Public Works Department, with the expertise of Chief Architect Dullal Mukherjee and architectural firms Simplex Structures and JD Creations, who are responsible for the exterior and interior design respectively.
Spread over an area of 10 acres, the new Vidhansabha or Legislative Assembly building complex consists of three separate structures: the Main Assembly Building, the Annexe I Building, and the Annexe II Building.
The main assembly building, the main building, covers an impressive area of 18,459 square meters and boasts a distinctive strip roof with a glass top, allowing plenty of natural light into its interior.
The two-storied structure has been thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of the members of the Legislative Assembly.
The first floor of the Central Assembly building has been specially designed to accommodate around 180 members of the Legislative Assembly. The space is planned to facilitate effective discussions, debates and decision-making processes that will shape the future of Assam.
Additionally, the new building is equipped with modern infrastructure and facilities, including central air conditioning, seven elevators, including a glass elevator and an escalator, ensuring convenience and accessibility for all.
The interior of the assembly building is decorated with natural stones such as granite, marble and limestone, reflecting a combination of beauty and durability. Modern mechanical methods have been used to mount these stones, using embedded metal anchors and ties for a secure connection.
