In Assam, two government employees were caught red-handed taking bribes.
Guwahati: Two employees of the state government were arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption from Goalpara district on Friday on charges of corruption.
A police release said the directorate had received a complaint that the executive engineer of the Irrigation Department’s Goalpara East Division, stationed in Dudhnoi, was allegedly repairing flood damage worth Rs 1 million. A bribe of Rs. 80,000 has been demanded for allotment.
The release states that the complainant contacted the directorate, according to which his spies had set up a trap near the accused’s office in Dudhnoi.
It further said that an executive engineer and a head assistant of the same office were caught red-handed taking Rs 50,000 as part of the alleged bribe.
The release further said that a case has been registered against both the accused.
