Diphu (Assam): A buried cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK series rifle and a pistol, has been recovered in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, a senior police officer said on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team on Wednesday night conducted an operation at Doidak in Dokmoka police station area and recovered an AK-56 rifle, a 9 mm pistol, a .32 caliber pistol, a sting gun and Ammunition, exported to Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police Sanjib Kumar Saikia said.
However, they did not speculate whether the arms and ammunition belonged to any militant outfit.
“Though we have no reports of any new militant outfit forming in the district, the police are always on the alert. We can confirm who the hoard belongs to only after a thorough investigation.
