In Arunachal Govt Teachers to boycott State Board exams
Itanagar: Government school teachers in Arunachal Pradesh have decided to boycott the upcoming state board exams and, if necessary, the CBSE exams, upset over the non-fulfillment of their long-standing demands.
The state board exams are scheduled to begin on February 3.
The protesting teachers under the auspices of the Arunachal Teachers Association (ATA), the apex teachers body in the state, have appealed to student organizations in the state to support their cause.
ATA is demanding that the earned leave of school teachers be increased from 10 to 20 days or the retirement age of teachers be increased to 62 years and immediate renovation of all dilapidated school infrastructure and teachers’ quarters.
He also ordered the complete decentralization of the Directorate of Elementary and Secondary Education to the block level, expediting the recruitment rules for all categories of teachers by this year and randomization of the posts of District Adult Education Officer, Assistant Project Officer and Assistant Project Officer. He also demanded appointments. Until then Block Education Officer, ATA Central Executive Committee President Kappa Kechak told reporters.
He said that review of integrated scheme for school education and inclusion of Deputy State Project Director from the parent department are other demands.
Despite several representations, the state government is showing a step-motherly attitude towards our genuine demands. We will boycott the state board exams from February 3. We will also boycott the CBSE exams if the situation dictates,” Kechik said.
ATA secretary-general Jummar Kena said the school buildings, built in the 1970s, were in “very poor condition”.
Government teachers in the state wore black badges from January 27 to February 1 in the first phase of their protest against the state government’s alleged non-responsiveness to their demands.
