Itanagar: A cashier at a petrol pump in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district, who was abducted at gunpoint by suspected ULFA(I) cadres, was released on Tuesday after 21 days, police said.
SP DW Thungan of Namsai said Dinesh Sharma, an employee of a petrol pump at Chongkham in the district, was released in Medo area under Wakro circle of Lohit district.
“The person is still in a state of shock, and investigations are ongoing to identify the group behind the kidnapping,” he said.
Locals claimed that the outlawed ULFA (I) was behind the kidnapping.
Sharma, who works at a petroleum outlet of a state-run oil marketing company, was abducted on the evening of April 26 by three armed ULFA (I) cadres.
The outlet is owned by Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) Jania Namchoom.
Militants opened fire during the abduction, and the fuel shop owner’s driver Mithai Marandi (28) was critically injured and later died at a hospital in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
