Aizawl: About 80 delegates from different parts of the country and 17 foreign countries arrived in Aizawl on Wednesday to participate in the business or B20 meeting of the G20 summit, official sources said.
The opening ceremony of the B20 meeting will take place at Mizoram University on the western outskirts of Aizawl on Thursday at 11:30 am.
Official sources said 62 delegates reached Aizawl on chartered flights.
Apart from them, G20 officials, 16 delegates from different parts of the country and 90 others from other parts of the state have reached the state capital to participate in the event, it said.
On arrival at Lone Lengpui Airport, the delegates and officials were given a warm welcome with a traditional Mizo dance performance by alumni of the State Art and Culture Department’s Institute of Music and Fine Arts, sources said.
This is the second of four B20 meetings organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in the Northeast as part of India’s G20 presidency.
Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Prakash and Minister of State for External Affairs Dr. RK Ranjan Singh will attend the event.
The program will focus on multi-sectoral business partnership opportunities in urban planning, infrastructure, bamboo, start-ups, skill development, handloom and handicrafts, nursing and paramedics.
The event will witness Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Government (B2G) meetings, giving foreign business delegates an opportunity to interact with local industries and government for potential investments, collaborations and tie-ups.
The United States, China, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, South Africa, Argentina and Canada are among the 17 participating countries.
According to officials, the delegates are expected to participate in Mizoram’s biggest and most important festival, Chapchar Kut, to be held in Aizawl on Friday.
The first B20 meeting in the Northeast was held in Imphal, Manipur from February 17-19.
According to CII, the next two meetings will be hosted by Sikkim from March 16-19 and Nagaland from April 4-6.
