Imphal: At least two Manipur police commandos have reportedly been killed in firing in Sugnu and Kakching.

An exchange of fire reportedly took place between Manipur police commandos and suspected armed militants of the organizations under suspension of operations.
On the other hand, fresh incidents of large-scale violence have been reported from various parts of Manipur.

The miscreants have allegedly set fire to several houses and other institutions.
Earlier on May 28, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh had said that security forces had shot dead 33 ‘militants’ as part of steps taken to normalize the situation and restore peace in the state.

Briefing the media in Imphal, the Manipur chief minister added that the ‘militants’ who have been neutralized belong to organizations that are under suspension of operations (SoO).
He also informed that large-scale combing operations are going on in the state to trace those involved in attacks on civilians.

“Firing is going on between armed forces and militants under the SoO,” said Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The Manipur Chief Minister added: “It is my humble appeal to all the people of the state to have faith in the ongoing efforts of the central and state governments to restore normalcy in the state.”

CM Biren Singh further assured that “territorial integrity of Manipur will be protected at all costs”.
It may be mentioned here that the Army and Assam Rifles launched several search operations in Kangchak, Motbung, Saikul, Pukhao and Sagolmang areas of Manipur on the morning of May 27 to trace the armed insurgents active in these areas.
“These operations are part of the overall ongoing efforts of the Army and Assam Rifles to restore peace and normalcy in the state of Manipur. Army columns are operating in forested hilly areas with latest technology weapons, equipment and other forces.
